What is Writing:

- Important to reading because students will be expected to write throughout school whether it is a comprehension question for a content area class or a writing sample for an English or standardized test response
- It is important that students know how to write and they are taught the skills to be successful writers
- Writing contributes to students’ growth as readers
- Writing enhances students’ comprehension, fluency, and recognition and decoding of words in text
